RIP - Relief In Place of Roto 7 by Roto 8
Written by WO J.M. Brush

What better word than rip could describe my journey to Afghanistan? It felt like I was ripped out of reality and thrown into another world. After what seemed like an eternity, the plane landed in Kandahar Air Field and a whirlwind of unloading kit, refreshing drills and techniques and briefings up the you know what!! A quick trip to Tim Horton’s on the boardwalk and out to the strong points we went.
Once in location, we received an excellent handover from 2 Troop, B Squadron (Sqn) of the 12e Regiment blindé du canada. They have established an organized and efficient location from which we will conduct our operations in support of the Battle Group. In our spare time we can be found relieving some stress in the make-shift gym or enjoying the cooking of MCpl Poppe, 3 Troops official chef.
As the final part of our handover, the unofficial ceremony of the passing of the chair was conducted. The chair in question has been passed from Scout Troop to Scout Troop since Roto 3 in 2006. The chair is one of a kind, and we will ensure to continue this tradition to the next Troop who will relieve us when our tour is complete.
Sgt Villeneuve gives Sgt Power the chair that started with Cpl (then) Galway RCD Roto 3, and was given to him (Cpl (then) Villeneuve) Roto 4. Since then it passed through Sgt Robichaud Roto 5, Sgt White RCD Roto 6, Sgt Villeneuve Roto 7 and to Sgt Power Roto 8.
MCpl Poppe takes full control of the kitchen ensuring that there is always good food for the troops no matter what time of day.
