Biography of Master Warrant Officer Kevin Mathers, CD
Sergeant Major B Squadron
MWO Kevin Mathers joined the Canadian Forces in 1985 and after a 6 year posting that included a tour in Cyprus with the LDSH (RC) in Calgary he was posted to Petawawa to become a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons. In 1991, he put up the Springbok and in doing so, fulfilled a lifelong goal of serving in the regiment that his Grandfather, Trooper Walter Mathers served in during WW II.  MWO Mathers has spent most of his career performing various Tank Squadron duties from Loader to Troop Warrant.  His biggest challenge came when he was posted to second language training in Valcartier, Quebec. He spent 4 years of immersion in the 12e Regiment Blinde du Canada (12e RBC). While with the 12eRBC from 1995 -1999 he was employed as a troop Sgt, Ops Sgt as well as the Admin Sgt to B Sqn. He also deployed as part of a team sent to aid the civilians in Bagotville when the floods devastated the Chicoutimi region of Quebec and then again in a similar role in 1998’s “OP Vergle” better known as the “Ice Storm”. When it was time to be posted again MWO Mathers was posted to LFCA (TC) Meaford as an instructor and Course WO for Crewman QL 3 training from 1999 to 2002. MWO Mathers then returned Petawawa as a troop WO. He and his troop, as a part of A Sqn which was rerolled to a Tank Sqn, participated in numerous live fire training exercises up until leaving for ROTO 13 in Former Yugoslavia in the fall of 2003. Back from tour in the spring of 2004, he took on the role of Squadron Quarter Master for KMNB Recce Squadron and deployed to Kabul from January to August of 2005. Once home from Op Athena, he was posted to the Armour School. The Gagetown posting was cut short when he was appointed the Crewman Career Manager in Feb 2006. MWO Kevin Mathers was promoted to his present rank in the fall of 2007 and remained in Ottawa until he was posted to the current position as SSM B Sqn on June 24, 2008.
