MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICER COMMANDING C SQUADRON
As Directing Staff during the Combat Team Commander’s Course 1101, I was fortunate enough have the chance to observe C Squadron Group in the field first hand prior to assuming its command. For this rare opportunity, I am very thankful.
I witnessed a cohesive, cunning and flexible team that remained continuously poised to respond to the ISTAR and Tactical Security needs of the Battle Group. Equally evident was the excellent fusion of Dragoons and Royals within the Squadron Group consisting of young and keen new comers determined to contribute, tempered with seasoned, mature and careful veterans who know the reality of modern combat. This solid mixture and firm foundation were no doubt forged by the efforts of Major Clark, SSM Preston and the Squadron’s leadership for which SSM Hebert and I are grateful for as we step into the breach.
C Squadron Group has served as a critical, unique and organic component of the 2nd Battalion of The Royal Canadian Regiment Optimized Battle Group for several years now. It has proven itself as a premier combined arms reconnaissance organization, continuing to provide medium and close reconnaissance sense expertise as the Battle Group. However as SSM Hebert and I assume command of C Squadron, it marks the beginning of a significant transition.
C Squadron has received a new mission to convert from reconnaissance to become an operational Leopard Tank Squadron. One can sense that elements of the Squadron are primed to re-role to heavy armour in support of the Army’s needs in Canada’s East. Conversely, it is equally evident that it will be hard to see key members of our team leave our lines to continue to provide expert reconnaissance capability to the Battalion or deploy as part of Op ATTENTION.
Our upcoming training year promises to be extremely busy and rewarding. C Squadron will remain adaptable, focussed and responsive to the challenges of the changing threat environment, evolution of the mission and demands of the Army. We will continue to fiercely safeguard the partnership we have forged together with the 2nd Battalion. Regardless of where we stable our horses or cache our rucks, what remains crystal clear, is that C Squadron’s soldiers remain determined to further hone themselves physically, mentally, emotionally and intellectually for the challenges of modern warfare and SSM Hebert and myself are eager to soldier among them.

Officer Commanding C Squadron
