2 RCR Reconnaissance Platoon is an organization used to gather accurate, detailed and timely information for the commander on the enemy and battlefield. This is achieved through predominately covert reconnaissance and aggressive, low-signature patrolling in order to inform and intimately support manoeuvre forces. A reconnaissance platoon can be utilized in a number of ways whether it is close target reconnaissance, or used in a support role. Patrolmen must have the ability to work in complex weather conditions in either a mounted but more often than not a dismounted role. To become a Reconnaissance Patrolman within Recce Pl a soldier must first be qualified Basic Reconnaissance Patrolman; not all that pass the course will necessarily be in the platoon, a level of maturity and professionalism is required. A Recce must be able to work as a member of a team, be physically fit, maintain a high level of job knowledge, have the ability and determination to complete tasks with minimal or no supervision and at times with little direction. Recce Pl provides the Recce Sqn with the flexibility to carry out covert close target surveillance and the capability to carry out information gathering in areas not suitable for mounted operations.
