Dear Fellow Dragoons:

The CO, and I just back from a short visit to Gagetown, noticed a need to better inform those member’s of the regiment posted elsewhere, so I’ve decided to tailor a letter to help.

August marked the end to some well deserved block leave.  The officers and men of the Regiment manned their respective posts and with a quick second glance at the handover notes they started to reform their squadrons integrating the new with the old. B Sqn’s first task was to take the lead on adventure training, the cross section of soldiers from all Sqns took to the waters of Bon Echo portaging and paddling there way to some much needed team building and story telling.  Aside from a few accidental swim tests- everyone had a great time.
Sgt Gilbert and his staff at the duty centre are continuing the work on the monuments in Dragoon Park and if all goes well the WW II portion should be in place by Nov. The Afghanistan Monument located adjacent to Dragoon Park was unveiled on the 20th of Aug and it is the first step towards the development of the Memorial forest that will surround it. The leadership as well as the majority of all the young troops are committed to PCF trg including a group of future MCpls that are being put through their paces on the PLQ by Sgt Power and Lt Bath. A 25 man guard under the watchful eye of Sgt Noon, dressed in the regiment’s best scarlets, went to the CNE in Toronto to take part in the Warriors Day celebrations for the 20-23 Aug weekend.

Our Deployed Dragoons continue to impress and their morale is exceptional, despite a high operational tempo; as was noted by the RSM on his recent visit to Afghanistan. The Regiment could not be prouder of the current group of soldiers and officers currently serving with the OMLT and TF 1-10 BG.

From old aching bones to troopers who look too young to be in uniform; the running trails and roads are adorned in red shirts, red faces and rucksacks while Dragoons prepare for the upcoming Ironman, the Army Run in Ottawa and or the Base Terry Fox run all scheduled for the month of September. We will continue to send out updates on a monthly basis; as well drop by http://www.dragoons.ca which is updated regularly with pictures of ongoing events.
