Members of The Royal Canadian Dragoons C Squadron took part in the Children’s Wish Foundation’s annual Wishmaker’s Walk for Wishes fundraiser held Saturday, October 15th, 2011. The walk was held near Oromocto’s Sir Douglas Hazen Park along the Trans Canada Trail system and included a barbeque and cheque presentation ceremony. In total, the cause raised $7673.77 towards granting a wish to a child between the ages of 3 and 17 who has been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.
Wishes can be anything from meeting a child’s favourite celebrity to visiting a dream location. Children’s Wish was founded in 1984 and since that time has granted over 15,000 wishes to children in every province or territory in Canada, with 628 wishes granted so far this year. In New Brunswick alone there are currently 93 children being supported by the Foundation and since 2001, 9 military families from CFB Gagetown have been granted wishes. With the money collected from the day’s events, Children’s Wish Foundation will be able to make one more wish come true and they can continue to boast “never refusing an eligible child.”
N.B. Chapter Director and 30 year military veteran, Mr. Gerry Beresford, presented the members of C Squadron, who raised $335.85, with the “Top Team Fundraiser” award for their participation in the event.
Members of 3 Troop, C Squadron present a symbolic cheque to the Children’s Wish Foundation. C Sqn was the top team fundraiser for this event.
