Recce Squadron to the Rescue!
MWO Kevin Mathers, Sqn Sergeant-Major, TF 3-09 Recce Sqn
Today, the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) from the Dand District Centre (DDC) has been called upon to recover a vehicle from a hole that they could not get themselves out of.  Not to worry - we have MCpl Rob Kubiac and Cpl Jeremy Jamieson, both from the National Support Element (NSE), and they man the state of the art AHSVS wrecker that is able to recover anything that us in the Battle Group might be able to get stuck.

The crew made up of me, MWO Kevin Mathers, my gunner, MCpl Dustin Barnett along with our Surv Op, Cpl Jamie Dunn and our driver, Cpl “Dom” Bruzzese, hold the ground south of the wadi we must cross later today.  While we do this, the Engineers, lead by Sgt ”Chuck” Baird, make a new crossing that will be passable for the fighting vehicles in the convoy.  We all man the cardinal points of the security bubble, studying the terrain with the various optics we have at our disposal.  MCpl Craig White relies on his troops, Cpl Josh Leclair, Tpr Chris “Skipper” Sherry and his always talkative driver, Tpr “Mitch” Nason, to help hold the outer cordon while Chuck’s engineers do their best to create a new way for the locals to cross the difficult terrain in this region of the Dand District.

Recce Sqn has been in theatre now for almost five months and although we pride ourselves on being experts of terrain analysis, every now and then, Mother Nature comes up with a challenge of her own for us to conquer and on this day she is one up on this crew from C Company, 1 PPCLI!
