There are as many stories as there are soldiers serving our country. Each story is a personal testament to bravery and dedication. This is one of those stories.
“I was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in February 2007 with B Squadron of the Royal Canadian Dragoons. In this letter I will talk about how the Guild of the Royal Canadian Dragoons helped me when I was injured overseas.
On April 11th 2007, while I was on patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan, my vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device that caused the death of my crew commander and my driver, and left me severely injured. As a result of my injuries, I was flown from Kandahar to Germany for emergency medical treatment. Because of the Guild of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, I was able to have supplies with me to make my time in the German hospital more comfortable. The Guild supplied me with all the necessities I needed including a shave kit, a change of clothes, and some other comfort items that I needed. Most of all, I appreciated the Regimental clothing that the Guild provided to me while I was in the hospital. The Regimental clothing made me feel like I was still a part of my deployed Squadron while I was recovering, even though I could not be with them any longer due to my injuries. The Guild made my time in Germany more comfortable and undoubtedly helped ensure my quick recovery.
I am now on my way to a full recovery. I am very grateful for the Guild of the Royal Canadian Dragoons and for their help in my time of need. I am not only speaking for myself, but for every other Royal Canadian Dragoons soldier and their families, when I say that the Guild is very important to us soldiers and we are very grateful for its help and support. "
Sincerely,
Matthew Dicks

Corporal Dicks received a Hospital Comfort Kit. This Quality of Life program is funded by the Guild of The Royal Canadian Dragoons. These Kits ensure that soldiers are afforded all the amenities they deserve while in the hospital including a Regimental track suit to remind the soldier, that while they are recuperating, they are not alone.
